2025 BBNZ Development Levy
Investing in Our Game
Why a Development Levy?
Basketball is one of the fastest-growing sports in New Zealand, and to keep up, Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) has introduced a Development Levy to help fund essential growth areas like coaching, refereeing, and national competitions.
What Does It Cost?
From 1 January 2025, all registered basketball players in NZ will pay:
$5 (Under-14)
$10 (15-19 years)
$20 (20+ years)
This one-time annual fee will be collected through GameDay.
Why BBHV Has an Additional Levy
Most sports in NZ—including highly funded ones like rugby and cricket—charge membership fees to support their development. Basketball Hutt Valley (BBHV) receives no direct funding and is run entirely by volunteers.
To improve our programs, BBHV will introduce a small additional levy, which will:
✅ Fund a part-time role to support school leagues and admin work.
✅ Improve local competitions by assisting referees and coaches.
✅ Enhance member services with better scheduling, registration, and communication.
How This Benefits You
🏀 More opportunities for players, coaches, and officials.
🏀 Better-run school leagues & competitions in the Hutt Valley.
🏀 Stronger local basketball community with better resources.
This levy is an investment in growing the game for everyone.
