Our GIANT - Ngāke.

Ngake is a determined phenomenon, a character that overcame barriers to achieve and be successful. Unfortunately whenever there is success, there is always a cost. Ngake's success of enjoying the open seas left a scar and gash inland. Ngake's aspiration to be in the vast ocean, lead to low tides, impacting Whataitai's place in the world.

Like Ngake, there will be winners today. However, the impact of winning will leave teams with symbolic scars and gashes of learning. We honour all athletes today, we honour the giants that you stand on - we honour the blessing and privilege you have at hand.
